Closings/Delays/FID Procedures

In the event that inclement weather conditions make it too dangerous to transport our students to school, the Fleetwood Area School District will post school delayed openings and closings on our district website, social media, and will provide notice to parents/guardians through its messenger notification system (see below). In addition, this information will be shared with the following media:

FM Radio

Television

In the event than an early dismissal is required each child should have a specific prearranged place to go if the parents/guardians are not home.

If there is a late start on an early dismissal day the early dismissal will be cancelled and schools will be dismissed at regular times.

Messenger Notification System

The Rapid Notification System will be used for weather-related school delays and closings, unplanned early dismissals, emergencies and other important announcements. Calls will be made to the home phone number for the parent or guardian who is listed first in our student database. In the case of an emergency, notification will be sent to all phone numbers and email addresses on file for both parents or guardians. Please contact your child’s building office with any changes to your phone numbers or email addresses.

The district has been approved by the Pennsylvania Department of Education to utilize up to five (5) Flexible Instructional Days (FID). A state approved FID provides continuity of instruction (see below for the guidelines). When making the snow/inclement weather day announcement we will include if this day utilizes a FID, or if it will be a typical snow/inclement weather day. We will utilize a FID unless the snow/inclement weather or other circumstances warrant a full closure.
