What is Drafting & Design? |
||||
|
Drafting and Design is a course that
helps students to discover how technologies are designed and developed
utilizing the Technological Problem Solving Method. Students also
learn how to create dynamic 3D computer models using a software package
called SolidWorks. SolidWorks is an industry level
3D design software used by companies around the world... including those
guys over at Orange County Choppers and even the guys over at Mythbusters from time to time!
During the course of the Intro to Design unit, students are introduced to the seven steps of the Technological Problem Solving Process (see graphic below). Using these steps, students will then be presented with a pair Technological Learning Activities (TLA). Students will also complete a Desktop Publishing activity that lest them stretch their creativity a little while designing something that tells everyone a little bit about themselves. During this unit, students will use sofware to develop a logo that represents who they are.
Finally,
students will complete one of a variety of TLA's (Technology Learning
Activities) during roughly the last 6 days of the course to utilize all
they have learned to create a solution to their given problem. You can check out a few of the final TLAs that are often assigned as culminating experiences. These represent a few of the possible activities. Many of these activities were developed by Mr. Bitting. There are also some that were gathered from colleagues across the country and world while attending various state and international conferences!
