  Bullying affects everyone!

Victims
n

Short-term effects include:  lower self-esteem, illness, absenteeism, depression and anxiety, thoughts of suicide.

n

Long-term effects include: lower self-esteem, higher incidence of depression.

The pattern of victimization can follow into unhealthy adulthood relationships. 

Bystanders

Bystanders feel afraid and powerless to change things.
n

Some bystanders join in the bullying behavior.

Bullies

n

Pattern of conduct disorder may continue into young adulthood.  

n

According to the Olweus study, bullies were 4 times as likely to have 3 or more convictions by age 24.

School Climate

nBullying affects student learning.
n

It creates a climate of fear and disrespect.

n

Students may perceive lack of caring and control within the school.
