PSSA Information
Chapter 4 of the State Board of Education Regulations mandates that the Department of Education assess the reading, math & science skills of students. The Pennsylvania System of School Assessment (PSSA) provides district instructional personnel and community members with data to assess each school’s educational performance relative to the state standards. The data is used to determine if our school is meeting the achievement targets established in the federal No Child Left Behind Act.
These tests are also very important in assessing the academic progress of students. Parents and school personnel will receive a report on each student’s performance on the PSSA. Please encourage your child to take the tests seriously, eat a good breakfast, and get a good night’s sleep each night during the testing period.
The various testing dates of the PSSA are provided below. If a parent or guardian prefers not to have his/her child participate in the statewide assessment based on religious beliefs, a written request for the student to be excused from the test must be forwarded to the building principal by February 28, 2011. Any questions concerning the district-testing program should be directed to Kimberly Price, District Testing Coordinator, (610) 944-7634 ext. 3522.
