Use of Facilities

Dear Community Groups and those wishing to use the Fleetwood Area School District facilities:

At their meeting on April 20, 2010 the Board of School Directors approved revisions in our use of facilities procedures and fees that will become effective July 1, 2010.  This letter serves to notify you of the changes approved by the Board.

A few changes have been made as to when our buildings will be available.  No weekend use will be permitted at any of the elementary schools.  The middle school will no longer be available on Sundays, although use of facilities will be permitted at the high school on Sundays.  Our facilities will not be open on Saturday evenings; use will be permitted up to 6:00 p.m.  Please also note that the criteria as to those groups who will be considered community groups has changed.  Groups with less than 67% Fleetwood Area School District residents will be charged the outside group rate.

A few changes have also been made in the fees that will be charged for use of facilities.  Effective July 1st, use of indoor facilities for community groups (including use of gymnasium) will be charged at a rate of $5/hour.  Groups who will be using grass fields for an entire season will be charged $50/field per season.  Use of fields for individual events will be reviewed and fees based upon the needs of that particular event.

These changes reflect the district’s obligation to recover some costs for the upkeep and maintenance of its facilities.  Obviously, the fees being charged to community groups do not come close to covering the district’s cost even for the use of utilities, particularly when a group is using a larger space such as the gym or auditorium.  I would also like to call your attention to the fact that when an admission or entry fee is charged, the community group fees are the same as those charged to outside groups.

Thank you for your attention to these changes.  Should you have any need for clarification, please feel free to contact my office.

Sincerely,

Paul B. Eaken, Ed.D.
