School Board Appoints Our Next Superintendent

Dr. Greg M. Miller has been selected as the new Superintendent of Schools for the Fleetwood Area School District (FASD), effective July 1, 2017.  The FASD Board of Directors made the appointment official at the Tuesday, March 21, 2017 Board meeting.  Dr. Miller succeeds Dr. Paul Eaken, who is retiring. 

Mr. Tim Heffner, President of the Board of School Directors, stated, “We are pleased to have secured Dr. Greg Miller as our new Superintendent of Schools. Dr. Miller is an exemplary educational leader who serves as an advocate for students.  He is a proven leader and is well respected in the field of education. The FASD Board of Directors has full confidence that Dr. Miller will successfully lead the school district in order to meet the needs of our students and staff, and to serve our community.”   

Dr. Miller is currently serving as Chief Student Achievement Officer for the Boyertown Area School District (total student population: 6,900+ / total staff members: 987). He is a student centered leader who has worked throughout his career to ensure that the needs of all students are being met.  As a principal, Dr. Miller worked with staff members to implement instructional and behavioral supports to ensure student success. As a central office administrator Dr. Miller worked to implement technology in all classrooms, and the restructuring of the junior high schools to a middle school program. 

The Fleetwood Area School District serves the children of Fleetwood Borough, Maidencreek Township, and Richmond Township. The district covers over thirty-nine square miles in northeastern Berks County. Students in grades kindergarten through four attend one of three elementary schools. Andrew Maier Elementary serves students in the Blandon area, Willow Creek Elementary serves students in the Fleetwood Borough and northern Maidencreek Township areas, and Richmond Elementary serves students in the northern parts of the school district. All students in grades five through eight attend the Fleetwood Area Middle School and all students in grades nine through twelve attend the Fleetwood Area High School, both of which are located along North Richmond Street in the Borough of Fleetwood.

The District has a student population of approximately 2,500. The district provides a quality education. Every school in the district has met current state and federal expectations for student achievement. Staff members consist of 207 professional staff, 142 support staff and 17 administrative staff.  The 2016-2017 general operating budget is approximately $44M.
